Juan Felipe Echavarria Salazar

Colombian tenor Juan Felipe Echavarría Salazar began his musical training at the age of nine as a cellist in the Red de Escuelas de Música de Medellín. His vocal talent was discovered in the Gregorian Choir of the Minor Seminary of Medellín, which led him to dedicate himself fully to singing.

He pursued his studies at Universidad EAFIT in Medellín and Universidad Central in Bogotá, before moving to Vienna, Austria, where he refined his education at the Richard Wagner Conservatory.

Despite his young age, Juan Felipe has successfully performed demanding tenor roles. Among his most notable appearances are Don Ottavio in Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Tamino in Die Zauberflöte, Aeneas in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, and Flavio in Bellini’s Norma. In the latter production, under the direction of legendary soprano Grace Bumbry, he not only sang the role of Flavio but also studied Pollione. Bumbry, who recognized in him a unique light and talent, became a decisive mentor and left a profound mark on his understanding of the vocal technique and the art of opera.

As a soloist, Juan Felipe has performed an extensive repertoire ranging from early baroque to contemporary operetta, including works such as Saint-Saëns’ Oratorio de Noël and arias by Verdi, Puccini, Mascagni, Massenet, Flotow, Weber, and Wagner.

He is currently a member of the Ensemble at the Romantik Theater in Lower Austria, where he has taken part in several productions by Roland Baumgartner. He performed in Karneval in Venedig, and premiered the world premieres of Hotel Royal, Träume im Orientexpress, and Sterne über Atlantis, with roles written especially for his voice.

In February 2025, Juan Felipe organized the benefit concert “Ecos de Ensueño” at the Dann Carlton Hotel in Medellín, in support of the Cathy Salguero Foundation and children with rare diseases. He gathered several partner companies to make this unforgettable evening of lyricism and passion possible, uniting music with a noble cause.

His artistic versatility has also led him to the world of symphonic rock and metal as the male soloist in the project Salvator, acclaimed for its fusion of classical lyricism with the power of rock.

In 2024, Juan Felipe founded Lux Vienna Productions (LVP), whose grand opening in Vienna marked the beginning of a new chapter in the city’s cultural life. Since then, the company has carried out innovative projects and is preparing a series of productions for the Mozart Year, including operas, concerts, and a tour in Austria and other countries connected to the composer. Soon, LVP will produce Roland Baumgartner’s music, to be released on all digital platforms.

Among his upcoming projects is the world premiere of “Medusa”, an immersive opera in which Juan Felipe will take the leading role of Perseus, blending the strength of myth with contemporary stage innovation.

Beyond his artistic career, Juan Felipe is a financial advisor specializing in insurance and investments, certified by the WKO Wien. He integrates this expertise into LVP, a company distinguished by its holistic approach—uniting music, artistic development, mental health, and financial health to support artists as integral and sustainable human beings.

With a career that spans opera, chamber music, symphonic rock, and multidisciplinary projects, Juan Felipe Echavarría is establishing himself as a versatile and visionary artist and entrepreneur, committed to expanding the boundaries of opera and creating new ways of connecting art, innovation, and society.
